About the Director

Mitchel Bates

Director of Design & Construction

Mitch Bates is an experienced Design and Construction professional, boasting over 12 years local, interstate and international experience in commercial and residential design and construction management.

Mitch designed his first project in 2005 whilst studying Architecture and working in retail banking. In 2007, Mitch was offered an international Architecture Internship with the late Graham Downes Architecture (GDA) in San Diego, California. During his time at GDA, Mitch worked alongside renowned Architects, Interior Designers and Project Managers to deliver projects including Le Meridian Hotel Dallas TX, Hard Rock Hotel San Diego, Heat Hotel Lake Havasu and Nico’s Steak & Chop House, Chula Vista.

After graduating from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Design (Architecture) in 2008, Mitch commenced a Bachelor of Construction Management (Building), working as a construction cadet in Canberra, ACT. After quickly proving himself as a reliable and knowledgeable construction professional, Mitch took on the roles of Client Manager, successfully project managing the roll out of dozens of design and construct homes across the ACT for both private sector clients and the Department of Housing.

Returning to Newcastle in 2010, Mitch worked in a variety of roles in the commercial construction industry including as Contracts Administrator, Project Manager, Design Manager and Construction Superintendent on various projects up to and in excess of $10M.

In 2014, Mitch established Bull & Bear Projects, drawing on his international and local experience and qualifications to offer a one stop shop for the design and construction management of commercial and residential projects.

Since 2014, Mitch has successfully grown Bull & Bear, delivering projects across Newcastle, Sydney and regional NSW, striving to exceed his client’s expectations and to ensure lasting quality.
